She hanged herself because her husband fell in love with another woman

GHUTRAPARA, AMBIKAPUR, INDIA – MARCH 19, 2020 27-year-old woman named Priya Soni was found dead in the city of Ambikapur. Her body was discovered in a locked room of the family home, where she died as a result of hanging. Immediately after the discovery, the case became the subject of a serious dispute between the deceased woman’s family and the police.

The woman’s parents were convinced it was not a suicide. They claimed their daughter had long-standing conflicts with her husband, to whom she had been married for five years, and believed he killed her and then attempted to stage the death as a suicide. As evidence, they pointed to the fact that her feet were touching the ground, that a suicide note was allegedly missing from the room, and that bruises were visible on her body, which they considered signs of physical assault.

Upon arrival, the police conducted a detailed examination of both the scene and the body. Forensic experts concluded that the injury on her chin was consistent with pressure from the fabric used as a noose. The marks on her lower limbs were not caused by violence but were early postmortem changes. Investigators also explained that contact of the feet with the floor is not unusual in hangings, especially when there is a gradual lowering of the suspension point. In this case, all indications suggested that the woman used a ceiling fan, from which part of the load loosened over time, resulting in a reduction in the height of the body.

Additional indications supporting suicide included physiological signs commonly observed in deaths by hanging. The distribution of bodily fluids on the floor also ruled out the possibility that the body had been moved from another location.

During a subsequent search of the room, a letter was found that had ended up under the bed. In it, the woman described the personal reasons that led her to the act. She stated that her husband was having an affair with a close acquaintance of hers and that repeated pleas to end the relationship went unanswered. Feelings of humiliation, helplessness, and long-term psychological pressure, according to her own words, led her to decide to end her life.

The family, however, rejected the police conclusions and insisted that she could not have written the letter herself. After the case was shared on social media, public pressure intensified to the point that investigators reopened the case and focused, among other things, on digital evidence from her mobile phone.

It was there that the key evidence was found. Shortly before her death, the woman recorded a video in which she can be seen standing in front of a prepared noose, crying and announcing her intention to take her own life. The farewell letter is also visible in the footage, confirming both its authenticity and authorship.

After evaluating all available information, the police closed the case, stating that it was a suicide and that there was no evidence of third-party involvement.
