Snapped marine rope tore off fisherman’s leg

GHANA Rope securing a large fishing boat snapped and struck a fisherman, tearing off his entire leg. His colleagues immediately provided first aid by stopping the bleeding using a makeshift tourniquet on his stump.

Ropes used to moor large boats are very strong and under enormous tension. If they snap, they become extremely dangerous. The force with which they recoil can easily cause death. Sometimes this is called the “snapback” effect.
