MEXICO Fifteen-year-old Nataly Gil Cruz died after a knife attack in which she was allegedly assaulted by her former close friend, sixteen-year-old Yareli Bautista Reyes.

According to available information, the attack allegedly took place on a street in southern Mexico. Yareli Bautista Reyes allegedly stabbed her former friend several times with a knife in the area of the abdomen and lower chest. Nataly Gil Cruz was still able to move after the attack and managed to leave the scene, which allegedly prevented further assault. Although she was subsequently taken to a hospital, she later succumbed to her serious injuries.
Police allegedly detained Yareli Bautista Reyes shortly after the attack. The sixteen-year-old girl now faces murder charges and remains in police custody.
According to statements from classmates and neighbors, both girls had been longtime friends. However, their relationship allegedly changed several weeks before the tragic event, and they stopped communicating with each other. Some people from their surroundings stated that Yareli was allegedly unhappy after noticing that Nataly was receiving more attention on social media and in the school environment.
