TEIXEIRA DE FREITAS, BAHIA, BRAZIL – APRIL 16, 2026 Serious traffic accident occurred on highway BR-101 in southern Brazil, in which a Toyota SW4 SUV collided head-on with a Mercedes-Benz truck with a trailer. The crash happened on the section between the cities of Teixeira de Freitas and Itamaraju in the state of Bahia.
The consequences of the collision were tragic. Three people died at the scene and another passenger was transported in serious condition to Hospital Costa das Baleias in Teixeira de Freitas. The truck driver escaped without injuries.
The victims were identified as Mara Cristina Vigneron de Araújo Oliveira (61), her sister Patrícia Vigneron Araújo (56), and Rômulo Alves de Oliveira (61), who was Patrícia’s husband. All were traveling in the SUV, which carried a total of four people.
According to initial reports from the scene, the accident occurred in a head-on collision in full traffic, and the circumstances are still being investigated by Brazilian police.
