PHNOM PENH, CAMBODIA – MAY 21, 2025 At Wat Kruos Primary School in Cambodia’s capital city, the body of a 14-year-old girl was discovered in the restrooms. At first glance, it was clear she had been murdered – a tightly knotted scarf around her neck and her skirt pulled up.

The investigation led police to an 18-year-old male and his two classmates, aged 15 and 16. It turned out they had lured the victim into the school building outside of class hours. There, they drugged her with sleeping pills to prevent resistance and all three raped her. Afterward, they strangled her with the scarf.

It remains unclear whether this was a random attack or if the victim was targeted with the crime planned in advance. The main suspect already had a prior criminal record related to sexual assault.
The Cambodian public is demanding justice and calling for all three perpetrators to be tried as adults due to the severity of their crime.
