HABIGANJ, BANGLADESH – SEPTEMBER 30, 2024 A young man named Pavel Mia (22) lost his life after jumping off a freight train. The incident happened on Monday afternoon near Shaistaganj railway junction in Habiganj. The deceased Pavel is the son of Abdul Mannan of Biramchar village of Shaestaganj upazila.
A video of the accident captured by an eyewitness has gone viral on social media. According to Shaistaganj Railway Junction sources, a freight train leaving from Chittagong was going to Sylhet. When the train reached Shaistaganj junction around 4 pm, two young people along with Pavel boarded the freight train. When the train left Shaistaganj junction and increased its speed, the two youths tried to jump off the train. At that time, one of them managed to jump down, but the other one fell under the moving train and lost his life. A video of the incident of being cut under the train has spread on Facebook.
Gaur Prasad Das, Stationmaster of Shaistaganj Railway Junction, said that Pavel Mia and two others were in a compartment of the freight train. Suddenly they jumped down from the train and Pavel fell under the train. Shaistaganj Railway Police recovered the dead body of Pavel and sent it to 250 bedded District Hospital of Habiganj for autopsy.
