Torso of 19-year-old Venezuelan girl found in Rímac River filter system

LIMA, PERU – JUNE 9, 2025 Human remains were found in the La Atarjea wastewater treatment plant, located in the El Agustino district and operated by the company Sedapal, were caught in the filtration system of the Rímac River. The torso was female, and both arms, legs, and the head had been removed.

Nine days later, on June 18, the victim was identified thanks to distinctive tattoos: a lotus flower on her chest, the phrase “Love me for who I am” on her side, and “Paula Sophia” with the date “12.12.15” on her back. Based on these features, her friends and family confirmed the remains belonged to 19-year-old Fabiola Alejandra Caicedo Piña.

Fabiola was a migrant from Barquisimeto, Venezuela. She arrived in Peru in February 2022 as a 16-year-old girl, accompanied by her much older boyfriend, Mayner Giménez Castillo. In December 2022, Mayner died under unclear circumstances, officially ruled a suicide. However, his relatives never accepted this version and publicly accused Fabiola of being responsible for his death.

Her boyfriend’s death deeply changed Fabiola. To support herself, she began working as a hostess in nightclubs and bars in the Lima Norte area. Some sources suggest she became involved in the local underworld tied to drugs and violence. Others even claim she turned to prostitution. What is certain is that she cultivated an image of a confident young woman on the social media platform TikTok, where she openly expressed her style and sexuality. Under the nickname “chinababy.17,” she gained several thousand followers.

Police are currently pursuing two lines of investigation. The first is that Fabiola fell victim to an organized gang involved in human trafficking, forced prostitution, and extortion. As a migrant without close family in Peru, she may have been an easy target. The nature of her murder and the mutilation of her body align with known methods used by such groups.

The second theory considers the possibility of a personal revenge. The perpetrators could be linked to the past of her deceased partner, Mayner.
