TELA, HONDURAS – OCTOBER 14, 2024 Tourist Roberto Carlos Bu Mejía, 38, was enjoying a holiday in the Honduran beach destination of Tela. While swimming in the sea, he was attacked by an aggressive shark, which bit Roberto in the ribs and seriously injured his leg.
Roberto was very lucky because the shark lost interest in him and he managed to make it to land. Although shark bites are not a daily routine at Tela Integrado Hospital, the doctors there managed to get him to a stable condition. At the moment, Roberto is probably already at Mario Catarino Rivas hospital in San Pedro Sula, where he is undergoing plastic surgery procedures.
Immediately after the attack, several local people took a boat out to sea to find the shark. They managed to track him down and capture him on video. They beat the shark over the head with something, as if to get revenge. But it’s just an animal acting on instinct. The blame probably lies with the fishermen who dump fish waste into the sea just offshore.
