Tragic aftermath of rickshaw accident

INDIA Rickshaw accident cost the life of a female minor passenger. The head-on collision threw her head against a steel bar, causing her instant death. All the adult passengers survived because their heads were at a higher level.

India’s roads are chaotic, filled with cars, motorbikes, buses, cyclists and pedestrians moving without any clear order. However, rickshaws, a popular means of transport, offer no protection – they have no seatbelts, airbags or a solid structure to cushion the impact in an accident. In India, there is no strictly enforced law forcing young people to wear a helmet on a motorbike, for example, or to be restrained in a car, which increases the risk of serious injury. Although some regulations exist, compliance in practice is minimal, making driving on Indian roads more dangerous than necessary.
