Two alleged thieves were reportedly caught in the act, after which an angry mob gathered around them and lynched them to death. After beating them so badly that they could not even stand, tires were placed over their heads, they were doused with gasoline, and set on fire. The incident took place somewhere on the African continent.
In Africa, the phenomenon of mob justice remains relatively widespread across most countries. People have little trust in the police and state institutions. They feel that if they do not punish a criminal themselves, the person will never be fairly punished. Unfortunately, this is often true because of corruption.
If you ever witness a lynching, never join in. Although it may seem like a quick form of justice, it is actually a gross violation of the lynching victim’s human rights. Even the worst criminal always has the right to a fair trial and punishment under the laws of the country.
