According to initial reports, the pilots attempted during the emergency situation to divert the aircraft away from populated areas in order to prevent greater damage on the ground. Despite this, the aircraft crashed and they did not survive the impact.
The Pakistan Air Force immediately launched an investigation and a special commission was formed to determine the exact cause of the accident. A technical malfunction is currently considered the most likely possibility, but this has not yet been confirmed.
