PUNE, INDIA – MAY 19, 2024 Aneesh Awadhiya and Ashwini Koshta were travelling together on a motorcycle through the Kalyani Nagar area at night. But these two budding young IT professionals met death when a vehicle hit them at high speed. Though neither of them was wearing a helmet, the impact was so severe that one can only speculate whether it could have saved their lives.

The vehicle that hit them was a luxury Porsche Taycan driven by a teenager Vedant Agarwal, only 17 years old. He had stolen the vehicle from his father along with his credit card and went to a bar with his friends where they were drinking alcohol.

This incident is currently causing a lot of controversy in India and Vedant Agarwal’s parents are also involved in it. Not only because they lent him a car, but when they came to know what happened, they rushed to the police station and tried to exchange their son’s blood samples so that the police officers don’t find alcohol in them.
This was not the only attempt by the accused’s family to obstruct justice. It turned out that Vedant Agarwal’s grandfather had kidnapped their family driver and forced him to falsely confess that he was driving the car. This too has come to light and the grandfather will face prosecution.
Vedant Agarwal has not been punished in any significant way due to his young age. Some say the punishment is unfair and ridiculous. He has to help the local police for 15 days, write a 300-word essay, undergo treatment for alcoholism and attend some counselling sessions. The punishment for his parents and grandfather could be a lot harsher, unless it turns out that money is more than the law in India.
