MEXICO CITY, MEXICO – NOVEMBER 6, 2018 María del Rosario Pérez García, a 25-year-old accounting student at the Faculty of Higher Studies (FES Cuautitlán) of the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), was found dead in the Ciudad Lago area of Nezahualcóyotl.

According to reports, she left her home in Mexico City on November 3, 2018, to attend a Halloween party in the Santa Martha Acatitla area. Her family last had contact with her that night when she called them around 1:30 a.m. However, the phone call was interrupted by screams and background noise, after which she was never heard from again.
Her family immediately began searching for her, and her mother posted appeals on social media asking for help in finding her daughter. A few days later, information appeared on Facebook about the discovery of an unidentified woman’s body in Nezahualcóyotl, which the family later identified as María del Rosario.
Her body was found in the streets of Ciudad Lago and, according to news reports, showed signs of violence, including injuries to the face and other parts of the body. Some sources also mention suspicion of a sexually motivated attack, as the body was found with disarranged clothing and signs of possible assault.
The investigation was taken over by authorities in the State of Mexico. One of the main lines of inquiry was her former partner, who lived in the area where the body was found.
