Unsuccessful suicide attempt in the middle of busy street

CAMBODIA Desperate man (fortunately) unsuccessfully attempted suicide in the middle of a busy street. He climbed a tree where he tried to hang himself with a piece of cloth. The situation did not leave one of the bystanders indifferent, who climbed the tree after him and tried to bring him down. However, the victim kicked around and actively resisted. In the end, the cloth broke under his weight and he fell down.

The man was detained and restricted in his personal freedom on the spot by several witnesses until the arrival of paramedics and police. They wanted to prevent him from further harming himself in any way.

Although such a suicide attempt has more the character of a protest than a desire to die, it should not be underestimated, devalued, or even laughed at. Such suicide attempts are often a desperate cry for help before an actual suicide. Each of them deserves help and respect.

If you’re thinking about suicide, please stop and recognize that your pain is not permanent, but this step would be. It may feel like there’s no other way, but there is hope, even if it’s hard to see right now. Your feelings are temporary, and with help, they can pass.

Talking about what you're going through might feel difficult, but it’s the first step toward healing. Don’t turn away from the people who want to support you. Life can offer more than what you're feeling right now, and the pain doesn't have to last forever. You deserve help, and it’s available.

If you need immediate help, please contact a helpline.
