SOUTH KOREA 37-year-old Korean man had an argument with his wife over the phone while he was drinking alcoholic beverages at a restaurant. When he left the restaurant, he never returned home. One of his friends who had been with him at the restaurant the previous day discovered him dead in his car the next day.
He had been strangled with a weighted backpack weighing 17.73 pounds (8.04 kilograms). Police investigated the case thoroughly but found no evidence to confirm extraneous culpability. The man committed suicide in this very unusual way.
Autopsy results showed that he had a blood alcohol level of 0.172% at the time of death. He had no prior suicide attempts, nor had he been diagnosed with any psychiatric disorder. It was noted that he had recently been under stress related to debt from his business.
