In Nigeria, acid is a relatively common tool for settling personal disputes. Women aged 20 to 35 make up the highest proportion of victims, accounting for up to 80%. For attackers, it is a way to permanently ruin a woman’s beauty or attractiveness. Most often, former partners commit such attacks, but there are also cases where someone splashes acid on a rising celebrity simply out of jealousy.
