CHICAGO, ILLINOIS, USA – MARCH 19, 2025 At the 69th Street station of the CTA Red Line in Chicago’s Greater Grand Crossing neighborhood, an argument between two women ended in a fatal shooting. Witnesses reported seeing the two women arguing loudly, when one pulled out a gun and shot the other in the neck. She then fled the scene. The victim was transported to the University of Chicago Medical Center, where doctors pronounced her dead.
This incident is not isolated. The 95th/Dan Ryan station, which also serves as a major transportation hub on the city’s South Side, and its immediate surroundings, are considered problematic in terms of crime. In November 2022, a 16-year-old girl was shot in the leg while standing on the sidewalk near this station. In another case, a woman was attacked by a group of people on the platform at the same station, with one victim suffering a stab wound to the shoulder.
