COTUÍ, SÁNCHEZ RAMÍREZ, DOMINICAN REPUBLIC – MARCH 20, 2025 29-year-old Yohanny Basilio, known by the nickname “La Beba,” was found hanged in the shower of a motel cabin (referred to as cabaña in the original Spanish). This type of small, detached lodging unit is part of a motel complex and is designed for short-term stays, with a strong emphasis on discretion. In the Dominican Republic, Mexico, and Colombia, such accommodations are common and often used by couples.

Yohanny worked at a nearby establishment and was originally from Santo Domingo. When she did not leave the cabin at the scheduled time, staff became concerned, went to check on her, and found her hanged. It is unclear why she was in a short-stay motel, which led to speculation and controversy. Some believe she may have been murdered and her body staged to appear as a suicide.
However, forensic results from her autopsy ruled out any signs of foul play. The cause of death was confirmed as asphyxiation.
