Owner of a pit bull ended up in the hospital after her dog attacked her. He caused her extensive injuries to the facial area. The victim had to undergo several complex surgeries and will carry facial scars for the rest of her life.
Pit bulls have long sparked debate. Once praised as kid-friendly family pets, their image shifted after a surge of widely reported attacks in the 1980s. U.S. data from 1979–1996 linked roughly a third of fatal dog attacks to dogs identified as pit bulls, though experts warn these numbers can be misleading since many muscular, broad-headed breeds get mistaken for pit bulls. Australia shows a similar divide: some reports blame pit bull terriers for most fatal incidents, while other groups deny this entirely, prompting states to pass breed-specific laws. Research suggests pit bull statistics may be inflated simply because people often can’t tell them apart from similar-looking dogs.
