ACAPULCO, GUERRERO, MEXICO, 2022 Young couple, both 20 years old, was found dumped by the roadside without signs of life. Both were tied up, and the woman had an improvised gag stuffed in her mouth. Investigation revealed that both were executed in an especially torturous manner – with a tool called garota.
Garota is a tool used for execution by strangulation. The victim sits on a bench and leans against a stake. Attached to the stake is an iron ring (a collar) that clamps the victim’s neck. The collar is slowly tightened with a screw until the victim suffocates. In another form, the garota is a wire with wooden handles on the ends and is held by the executioner.
It is assumed their deaths are related to drug trafficking. Both had several criminal records in the past for drug dealing.
