PEREIRA, RISARALDA, COLOMBIA – JULY, 2025 Young man, for unknown reasons, decided to end his life and jumped from the César Gaviria Trujillo overpass. If you ever find yourself as a witness to a suicide attempt and have the opportunity to talk with the person, it’s crucial to recognize that no matter how good you are at talking someone down, there is always a risk they might still jump. Understanding this can help you avoid long-term psychological harm. Approach the person with empathy and respect, but avoid telling them their problems are insignificant – someone ready to end their life does not see their troubles that way. Keep a respectful distance without invading their personal space. Always call the police as soon as possible, since they have specialized training to handle these crises.
If you’re thinking about suicide, please stop and recognize that your pain is not permanent, but this step would be. It may feel like there’s no other way, but there is hope, even if it’s hard to see right now. Your feelings are temporary, and with help, they can pass.
Talking about what you're going through might feel difficult, but it’s the first step toward healing. Don’t turn away from the people who want to support you. Life can offer more than what you're feeling right now, and the pain doesn't have to last forever. You deserve help, and it’s available.
