MANCHAY, PACHACÁMAC, PERU – JULY 17, 2025 25-year-old Rocío Pilar Gutiérrez became the victim of an attack by armed hitmen. The gunmen blocked their path with their car, two of them got out and opened fire. After more than 20 shots were fired, they jumped back into their car and fled the scene.

Her ex-boyfriend, 28-year-old Alex Carlos Costa Santiago, escaped unharmed and was not hit by a single bullet. Rocío was hit multiple times. Witnesses said that shortly after the shooting, she was still alive and begged them for help. However, she died not long after.

The paradox is that the attack was most likely aimed at Alex. Rocío was just in the wrong place at the wrong time and with the wrong man. Her aunt said that Rocío was always peaceful and had no enemies. According to her, Alex had already been the target of similar attacks several times in the past. She also expressed her concern, saying she believes it is no coincidence that he was not hit even once.
Rocío worked as a sales promoter. She lived with her mother and was the oldest of two siblings. That day, she left work without telling anyone she was going to meet her ex-partner. Her family learned about the murder through social media and from neighbors.
