NAM ĐỊNH, VIETNAM – DECEMBER 6, 2024 Ignoring a triggered barrier cost the life of a young man on a scooter in Nam Định town. As can be seen in the security camera footage, he didn’t even look around and drove his scooter directly under the speeding train. The train crushed him and he died on the spot. All he had to do was look around and wait a few seconds for the train to pass.
What is striking is that many people in front of him also drove onto the tracks even though the barriers were down. Many people in this Asian region ignore the rules of the road and bend them to suit themselves. It is not uncommon in Vietnam, or Cambodia, or Thailand, to come through a junction on a red light etc. It is important to remember that the rules of the road are there to protect our life and health, but also the lives and health of all road users.
