ITAITUBA, PARÁ, BRAZIL – DECEMBER 27, 2013 In the Bela Vista neighbourhood, between Lauro Sodré and João Pessoa streets, a construction worker discovered the corpse of a woman inside one of the houses under construction. She bore the marks of a beating. Upon arrival, the police identified her as 20-year-old Miriana Fabiane da Costa Marquese.
When police looked into her records, her ex-husband, Nailson Souza, immediately became the prime suspect in her murder. He had been visited countless times by police for domestic violence against Miriana and later, when she was an ex-wife, he stalked and assaulted her.
Just shortly before her murder, on December 14, 2013, he brutally attacked her in the middle of the street. He used his fists and beat her face against the asphalt. This attack was caught on a security camera.
