FLORIANO, PIAUÍ, BRAZIL – DECEMBER 11, 2025 12-year-old girl, identified as Ester Lourrane de Castro Aquino, was shot on the street while on her way to a service at an Adventist church. A stray bullet from an ongoing assassination attempt struck her directly in the head.

The incident occurred in the Catumbi neighborhood. The intended target was a 32-year-old man, J.N.F.C., also known as Cabura. A man and a woman on a motorcycle stopped near him; he got off to open fire while she handled the driving. Although Cabura was the main target, he only sustained minor injuries to his back. The only life lost was that of innocent Ester.
José Maria dos Santos & Maria Helena Pereira
Less than 24 hours after the incident, police arrested the suspected couple: 28-year-old José Maria dos Santos and his 26-year-old girlfriend Maria Helena Pereira. Both admitted to the crime. José also stated that his primary target was Cabura due to disputes over the drug business and expressed deep remorse for the death of the innocent child.
