SHANTOU, GUANGDONG, CHINA – AUGUST 7, 2026 14-year-old girl suffered serious injuries after falling from the fourth floor of a shopping mall in Shantou. She did not die at the scene, but her condition was so severe that she had to be taken to the intensive care unit.
Doctors identified more than 25 different injuries and complications, including a skull base fracture, multiple pelvic fractures, facial and spinal fractures, injuries to the lungs and heart muscle, internal bleeding, and hemorrhagic shock. She therefore underwent emergency treatment and surgical procedures.
The cause of the fall has not yet been confirmed. There has been speculation that it may have been an accident, or that mental health issues or pressure related to her studies may have played a role in the incident.
