It happened during a horse race. Her horse was spooked by a loud exhaust of a car and knocked her off her saddle. Emily crashed right through her face into a gate post.
Immense admiration and respect goes to plastic surgeon Ricardo Mohammed-Ali, who performed a miracle. He restored her face to a state that in just a few weeks of recovery, it was almost impossible to tell that Emily had ever had any injuries.
Three titanium plates and more than 160 stitches were used to save her face. They even managed to save all but one of her teeth.
