The murder led to the arrest of two rivals from a competing gang: 15-year-old Alec McFarlane and 19-year-old Mehki Williams. Despite being minors, both had a history of criminal activity, including prior arrests for weapons possession and drug offenses. Investigators were able to track them down in large part due to their own social media activity -both had posted incriminating messages boasting about the killing.
Authorities believe the murder was gang-related and motivated by revenge. Just hours before his death, Ramon was suspected of gunning down a 13-year-old member of the rival gang. Police say Alec was the one who pulled the trigger, while Mehki drove the getaway scooter. Additional shooters are believed to have been involved in the ambush but may have escaped without being identified.
