NEW DELHI, INDIA – FEBRUARY 15, 2025 Tragic incident occurred at the main train station in New Delhi, killing at least 18 people, including four children and ten women. At least ten others sustained injuries of varying degrees.
Thousands of people had accumulated at the station as they waited for delayed trains bound for the religious festival of Kumbh in the city of Prayagraj in northern India. The delay of two trains led to a crowd piling up on two platforms, which eventually resulted in crowding and confusion that led people to trample on each other.
This tragedy is not unique. On January 29, 30 persons were trampled and 60 injured right at the venue of the Kumbh festival. We reported about this incident here.
