VILLAFLOR, OROQUIETA CITY, MISAMIS OCCIDENTAL, PHILIPPINES – JANUARY 14, 2017 Several gunshots rang out through the streets of the small village of Villaflor and a woman, just 18 years old, fell to the ground dead. She has been identified as Merry Joy Dajao Talaroc. She left behind a young son.

At first, it was unclear who might be seeking the life of this young mother. But police investigations revealed that she was involved in the illegal drug trade. Specifically, shabu (methamphetamine).
Her funeral took place 10 days later, on January 24, 2017. As is customary in the Philippines, she had a glass coffin so her family and loved ones could say their last goodbyes.
