SANTA BÁRBARA, BAHIA, BRAZIL – AUGUST 29, 2026 Tragic accident occurred around 10:40 a.m. on the Brazilian BR-116 highway in the municipality of Santa Bárbara, approximately 25 miles (40 kilometers) from the city of Feira de Santana. A passenger car collided head-on with a bus.
The driver of the passenger car was 69-year-old Ezequiel Santos da Silva, who suffered fatal injuries in the crash and died at the scene. The exact cause and circumstances of the collision are not yet known, and police are continuing to investigate.
The accident occurred at kilometer 373 of BR-116, near a location known as “Curva da Morte” (Death Curve). According to local media, the section between Santa Bárbara and Serrinha is currently also being upgraded, with work underway to expand the highway.
Despite the force of the impact, according to the Federal Highway Police, none of the bus passengers were injured. The case was handed over to the 1st Police Station in Serrinha, which is responsible for clarifying the circumstances of the accident.
