SANTA MARÍA, ASUNCIÓN, ECUADOR – OCTOBER 23, 2020 7 friends from North Africa (Morocco, Algeria, Egypt) wanted to migrate illegally to the European Union. They were going to Italy and Belgium. They used the migrant route through Serbia. It was there that they hid in a fertilizer container at the train station. They were afraid of the rumours circulating among the Mirants that if they were caught by the Serbian police they would be tortured and burned alive.

But they picked the wrong container. The destination of the container was not any EU country, but Paraguay. They spent from July 21 to October 19 in that container.

When the container was opened, all that was left were rotting corpses. They didn’t have a chance to last that long. The food supplies they had only lasted for 3 days. They probably resorted to cannibalism before they died.
