OREM, UTAH, USA – SEPTEMBER 10, 2025 Charlie Kirk was a 31-year-old conservative activist, media personality, and founder of the nonprofit organization Turning Point USA (TPUSA), which focused on reaching students to promote conservative values such as free markets, fiscal responsibility, and limited government. He was well known for raising controversial topics such as gun control, LGBTQ+, and immigration to the United States. He strongly supported Donald Trump and was considered one of his close allies.

On September 10, 2025, an assassination attempt was carried out against him during a public event held at Utah Valley University. The incident took place as part of his “American Comeback” tour organized by TPUSA. The attacker fired from approximately 650 feet (200 meters) away, hitting him directly in the neck. Kirk was rushed to the hospital, where he died after several hours.
Shortly after the incident, a suspected assailant was detained and allegedly confessed to the act. However, he was later released when it was revealed he had no connection to the attack. Authorities, including the FBI and local police, continue an intensive search and are asking the public for assistance in identifying the perpetrator. Anyone with information is urged to immediately contact the FBI by any means.

The assassination sparked a wide range of reactions across the political spectrum. President Donald Trump called Kirk legendary and expressed condolences to his family. Utah Governor Spencer Cox described the attack as a political murder and vowed to bring the shooter to justice. Other politicians, including House Speaker Mike Johnson and Democratic leader Hakeem Jeffries, expressed support and condemned political violence.
