WUHAN, HUBEI, CHINA – SEPTEMBER 6, 2025 Tragic incident occurred on the pedestrian zone of Jianghan Road during the traditional Zhongyuan Festival, also known as the “Ghost Festival.” The driver of a black sedan drove into the crowd of festival-goers. Several pedestrians were struck, and multiple vehicles were damaged.
At least 10 people were injured as a result of the accident, with some even trapped under the vehicle. Miraculously, no one died. The driver attempted to flee the scene but was soon apprehended by the police. Some witnesses reported that he appeared visibly under the influence of alcohol.
The Zhongyuan Festival, which falls on the 15th day of the 7th lunar month, is an important event in Chinese culture dedicated to honoring deceased ancestors. The fact that the accident occurred during such a significant holiday has heightened public attention and calls for stricter pedestrian safety measures.
