MYANMAR (BURMA) Residents of war-torn Myanmar were confronted with a horrifying sight caught on video: a hungry street dog chewing on a human skeleton.
Unfortunately, this is also a consequence of the ongoing war that has plagued the country almost since its independence in 1948. In 2021, a military coup took place when the junta overthrew the democratically elected government and seized power. Various anti-government groups are fighting back, trying to restore democracy. The war has had a massive humanitarian impact – tens of thousands killed, hundreds of thousands to millions displaced, widespread human rights abuses, and extensive destruction of infrastructure.
