Grandma was doing the ice bucket challenge with her grandchildren. The family dog, a pitbull, was also present and watched the whole thing. He couldn’t interpret the situation correctly when grandma started screaming and apparently thought she was trying to harm the children. This triggered his protective instincts, which ultimately led to an attack on the woman. He bit her in the face, and she later left the hospital with several stitches.

Pitbulls, like many other dogs with strong protective instincts, react intensely to emotional cues such as raised voices, sudden movements, and stressful situations. Dogs can’t always tell when something is just play, and they may respond instinctively rather than out of malice.
