SOUTH SUDAN Video shows the brutality of war in South Sudan. Several captured soldiers are executed en masse in the middle of the desert.
South Sudan is currently the youngest country in the world. It became independent in July 2011 after separating from Sudan. Shortly after, in 2013, a large-scale conflict broke out between forces loyal to President Salva Kiir Mayardit and those supporting his former vice president Riek Machar; the conflict had a strong ethnic dimension (Dinka vs. Nuer).
Although a peace agreement was signed in 2018, its implementation remains very unstable. Despite this document, it can be said that the war is still ongoing, bringing widespread attacks on civilians and humanitarian crises.
