SANTO DOMINGO, DOMINICAN REPUBLIC – OCTOBER 29, 2025 Powerful explosion in a family home in the Los Pinos de Arroyo Hondo area claimed the lives of two men – a father and son. They were apparently working together to repair a metal structure and performing welding work near a gasoline tank, which exploded. The explosion caused a strong fire and a large shockwave.
Neighbors who rushed to help immediately tried to extinguish the flames with whatever they had available. They found one of the men completely burned in the debris, but still alive. However, he died before rescue teams arrived.
Firefighting technicians are currently interviewing witnesses and conducting an investigation to determine whether the accident was caused by a failure to follow safety protocols or by mishandling of fuel.
The incident emphasizes the importance of common sense and workplace safety when welding. The consequences can be catastrophic.
