BRAZIL Video shows the aftermath of a serious motorcycle accident. The rider suffered an open leg fracture near the knee, as well as several abrasions. It is not yet known exactly how the accident occurred.
What is shocking in the footage is the crowd of onlookers gathered around, with almost no one providing help. In such situations, it is important to take charge, break the crowd effect, and assign specific tasks to specific people – telling one person to call an ambulance, asking another to help move the victim, and so on.
First aid mainly consists of monitoring vital functions until paramedics arrive. Never attempt to push the bone back in. In the case of heavy bleeding, pressure should be applied to the wound using a sterile cloth, or a tourniquet should be used.
