AFRIN, SYRIA – APRIL 28, 2020 In the central city market, near the governor’s office, a destructive attack occurred using a truck in which an explosive device had been hidden. The explosion claimed the lives of at least 53 people, with dozens more sustaining injuries of varying severity. Unfortunately, children were among the victims.
The blast triggered massive fires, causing extensive damage to property and further loss of life. Witnesses described it as an apocalypse, with people trapped by the flames in their cars or homes. Many of them were burned alive.
The Turkish government blamed the Kurdish militia YPG for the attack. However, they denied all allegations. It was never proven who was truly behind the attack.
