CHINA – DECEMBER 8, 2025 Chinese woman decided to end her own life for unknown reasons. She chose a rather unusual method: a rough, icy sea. A security camera captured her wandering around before she climbed to a spot where a wave swept her away. Shortly afterward, several fishermen noticed her, but unfortunately they were no longer able to help.
A sudden jump into cold water causes immediate physiological changes in the body. These reactions are meant to protect life, but they can also be dangerous. Hyperventilation occurs right away and can lead to a lack of oxygen within moments. High blood pressure combined with constricted blood vessels can trigger an underlying heart condition or cause heart failure. After prolonged exposure to icy water, the body begins to lose heat at a dangerous rate.
First aid in similar situations mainly involves staying calm and not endangering your own life. Jumping into icy water to rescue a drowning person is not a good idea unless you are cold-water trained with special preparation. It is recommended to immediately call emergency services and look for objects that could help pull the person to shore, such as a rope or a stick.
