VENEZUELA Man owed a criminal group a sum of money that he had long failed to repay. They no longer tolerated it and sent hitmen who caught him by surprise in his home and killed him with several gunshots.
Although gangs are certain that a deceased debtor will never pay back the debt, it is often advantageous for them to resort to such extreme violence. One reason is to demonstrate dominance and maintain the respect of other debtors.
