PALTAY, HUARAZ, PERU – FEBRUARY 28, 2026 After a week-long search, the body of National Police of Peru (PNP) Non-Commissioned Officer Marleni Rucana Silvestre was found. The police officer had been missing since February 21, 2026. A breakthrough in the case occurred after the main suspect, also a member of the police force, confessed to the crime and led investigators to the location where he had dumped the body in a ravine.
At the recovery site, identification took place in the presence of a judge, the victim’s family members, and specialized police units. Although the suspect’s defense argued his willingness to cooperate during a house search and the fact that he does not own a vehicle, the court ordered his detention. Currently, the preliminary evidence phase is underway to secure key evidence for the upcoming trial.
