FORT MYERS, FLORIDA, USA – APRIL 2, 2026 Bangladeshi immigrant, whose identity was released only as Yasmin, became the victim of a brutal murder. The incident took place in the parking lot outside a convenience store. While she was inside, an unknown man approached her car with a hammer and began damaging it. When she came outside and confronted him, the attacker assaulted her with the hammer as well.
Yasmin was repeatedly struck in the head and suffered critical injuries. When paramedics arrived at the scene, she was pronounced dead.
Although the attacker fled the scene, police were able to identify and arrest him later that same day based on surveillance footage. He was identified as 40-year-old Rolbert Joachin, a Haitian immigrant who came to the United States in 2022. He is reportedly a mentally ill individual who may also be linked to another unsolved murder that occurred in the area a few months earlier.
President Donald Trump also commented on the crime on his social media platform Truth Social, where he shared an uncensored video. He used the incident as an example of the dangers associated with immigration policy. Critics, however, pointed out that a single specific act cannot be used to generalize the broader issue of migration.
