PATRICIA PILAR, LOS RÍOS, ECUADOR – APRIL 23, 2026 Attack took place in the early morning hours, when a group of armed men broke into a family home. According to available information, they were masked and armed with rifles.
The attackers immediately opened fire on everyone present and killed four members of the family at the scene. The victims were a 52-year-old man, his 49-year-old wife, their 19-year-old daughter, and the daughter’s 18-year-old partner, who had been living in the home only briefly while helping with work on the family farm.
After the shooting, further extreme violence occurred – two of the victims, specifically the young couple, were reportedly later beheaded. A one-year-old baby girl was also in the house and survived the attack without physical injuries.
Police are investigating the case and have not yet released an official motive. However, armed groups and violence linked to organized crime have long been present in the region, which is one of the possible lines of investigation.
