BENGALON, EAST KALIMANTAN, INDONESIA – JUNE 22, 2026 Tragic traffic accident involving two motorcycles claimed the lives of 22-year-old Selmi Lovianti Malute and 36-year-old Baso Patahuddin. According to the preliminary investigation, the man crossed into the opposite lane while negotiating a curve in an attempt to avoid a pothole in the road, where he collided head-on with the motorcycle ridden by the young woman.
After the impact, fuel likely leaked from both motorcycles and was ignited by sparks generated during the collision. Within moments, both motorcycles and their riders were engulfed in flames. Witnesses who arrived at the scene managed to extinguish the fire, but both victims suffered extensive burns and later died from their injuries. Police are continuing to investigate the case, but have preliminarily identified human error as the primary cause.
