JABOATÃO DOS GUARARAPES, PERNAMBUCO, BRAZIL – JUNE 21, 2026 In the Piedade neighborhood in the city of Jaboatão dos Guararapes in the metropolitan area of Recife, a 26-year-old technical school student was shot dead. The victim was Michael Batista Aquilino, a student of an occupational safety course at a local technical institution. At the time of the attack, he was on the sidewalk near the school and was waiting or moving around the area together with other people.

According to the investigation and security camera footage, two men arrived at the scene on a motorcycle. One of them, who was sitting on the back, got off the motorcycle, approached the student, and fired several shots at him from a very close distance. Michael tried to run away, but he was hit and collapsed on the sidewalk. He died before emergency services arrived.
Police immediately cordoned off the area for forensic investigation and evidence collection. Shortly after the act, one of the suspects was arrested in a police operation, which also seized the motorcycle used in the attack and a weapon likely used in the shooting. The second perpetrator fled the scene and police continued to search for him.
