BANGKOK, THAILAND – JUNE, 2026 Brutal murder of woman has shocked Bangkok. The victim was Aye Aye Nwe, 34, a Myanmar national who worked as a waitress at a restaurant and bar in Bangkok’s Khlong Toei district. When she failed to contact her family for several days, her relatives reported her missing and accompanied police to her rented room on Soi Ratchaprarop 14 in the Makkasan neighborhood. After entering the apartment, officers first found signs of a violent struggle. A strong odor then led them to the rear balcony, where they discovered a black plastic storage box containing the woman’s dismembered remains.

Forensic pathologists determined that the perpetrator had dismembered the body in an exceptionally brutal manner. The head, both arms, and the lower portions of both legs below the knees were missing, and the abdominal cavity had been cut open. Investigators therefore began searching not only the apartment but also the building’s drainage pipes, sewer system, and septic tank in the hope of finding the remaining body parts. Detectives, forensic specialists, and Bangkok Metropolitan Administration workers joined the search, bringing specialized equipment to pump out the septic tank.

The victim’s husband, Aung Pyae, 36, also a Myanmar national, who worked as a chef at a business near Phetchaburi Road, became the main suspect. According to police, the couple had argued frequently in recent months, and one of the main lines of investigation is jealousy. The man allegedly believed that his wife was involved with another man. Neighbors later told investigators that in the days before the murder was discovered, he appeared extremely nervous, often sitting outside the house, smoking one cigarette after another and drinking alcohol. Even so, most people considered him a quiet man and were shocked by the accusations.

Security camera footage played a key role in the investigation. The cameras captured Aung Pyae leaving the apartment several times after his wife’s disappearance while carrying different bags. In one recording, he is seen carrying a large suitcase that investigators believe may have contained parts of the victim’s body. Surveillance footage later tracked his journey from Bangkok to the border town of Mae Sot in Tak Province. From there, police believe he illegally crossed into Myanmar outside an official border checkpoint.

Bangkok Criminal Court subsequently issued an arrest warrant for Aung Pyae on charges of premeditated murder and desecration of human remains to conceal a crime. Thai police immediately coordinated with Myanmar authorities, who soon located and arrested the suspect in Yangon. He was then transferred to the border town of Myawaddy, from where he was expected to be handed over to Thai authorities through the Mae Sot border crossing to face prosecution in Thailand.
