GUAYAQUIL, GUAYAS, ECUADOR – JUNE 16, 2026 Residents of the Mapasingue Oeste neighborhood discovered the body of 21-year-old Kiara Cecilia Haro Córdova after hearing her screams and calls for help during the night. Shortly afterward, witnesses heard motorcycles leaving the area at high speed. Her body was found with her head severed. Police then launched an investigation and began searching for those responsible for the brutal murder.
Investigators determined that Kiara Cecilia lived in a rented room together with other people from Ecuador and Venezuela. During a search of the room, police found several packages containing controlled substances, leading to suspicions that the murder may have been related to drug trafficking.
One of the main lines of investigation is a conflict between criminal groups fighting for control of territory used for drug distribution in the Guayaquil area.
In connection with the case, police detained a man known by the nickname “Gordo.” According to authorities, the man had previous criminal records for robbery, illegal possession of weapons, and illegal arms trafficking. Police are now investigating whether “Gordo” directly participated in the murder or whether he was only linked to the group responsible for the attack.
