SÃO DOMINGOS DO MARANHÃO, BRAZIL – MAY 26, 2016 The corpse of a young woman was found by a random passer-by on a dirt road. Police identified her as 21-year-old Maria Alice de Sousa. She had been shot twice in the neck and once in the chest.

Around the same time, a man’s corpse was found in bushes at another location. He was wearing only his underwear and also had gunshot marks on his body. Police identified him as Cícero Romão de Araújo.
It was established that both victims were married. Although police were never able to clarify the motive for the murders, it is almost certain that it had something to do with their criminal behavior. Both had recently returned from São Paulo, where Maria had been arrested for theft. She even escaped from a police cell.
